Under the distinguished leadership of Togbe Tepre Hodo IV,National President;
BHOBU 94 in collaboration with BHOBU National & BIHECO
present
the Maiden BHOBU OLYMPICS
INTRODUCTION
Bishop Herman College located at Kpando in the Volta Region is among the top 10% schools in Ghana established in 1952. It is a single sex school (male) with a current student population in excess of One Thousand (1,000.00) students. The school is affectionately called Biheco and the students, BIHECANs.
In the desire to keep the camaraderie shared on campus going and also give back to the alma mater, old students constituted themselves into BHOBU,an acronym which stands for Bishop Herman Old Boys Union.
Membership is open to all students who have spent a minimum of one academic year in Biheco in pursuit of academic laurels. Associate and honorary membership is also guaranteed to all those ,other than old students, who share in the vision of BHOBU especially members of staff, academic and non academic, friends and well-wishers of Biheco and Bhobu, not forgeting spouses of members.
BHOBU '94 is the group of students who completed Sixth Form or SSS3 in 1994 (or Form Five in 1992 for those who did not return for the Sixth Form program).
This year group is currently celebrating its fifteenth (15) anniversary since its formation in 1994 and/or its twenty second (22nd) anniversary since members first stepped foot on Biheco soil as students in 1987/88 .
And as part of activities marking the event we ,BHOBU 94 in collaboration with BHOBU National and the school ,are organizing an Inter Year Group(our plan A) and an Inter Decade Special year grouping(our plan B) Sports and Games competition involving all year groups from 1955/6 to 2008.Inter Houses is our plan C strategy for the competitions.
This event to be known as BHOBU Olympics {our plan A} or BHOBU-(SPONSORNAME) Olympics {our plan B} will be an annual event starting this year,2009. It will also be marked on the National BHOBU annual events calendar permanently as a major meeting date for BHOBU National Roll Calls and also to celebrate members who have performed outstandably well in the year ending.
In this maiden one, we are inviting POGA as our special guests who will act as cheer partners but participate fully in all the games in the consequent ones, which shall be called BHOBU-POGA OLYMPICS{Plan A} or BHOBU-POGA-(SPONSOR NAME) OLYMPICS{Plan B} . Our idea is to assist POGA, to also strategically organize their year groups and union even though we know they exist.
POGA, also an acronym, stands for Past Ola Girls Association. Ola Girls is also a single sex(female) school in Ghana situated at Ho,the Capital city of the Volta Region, and is a sister and cheer partner to Biheco. As Ola is to Biheco ,so is POGA to BHOBU, hence the partnership/"marriage ": BHOBU-POGA Two are better than one,the saying goes.
In the very near future ,from BHOBU or BHOBU-POGA level, we intend organizing the event amongst the old students of Volta Schools paired with or without their cheer counterparts. We will also attempt Inter Schools Nationwide past students, then Inter Countries starting with Africa first and finally Inter-Continents.In all these cases ,we will venture the Catholic schools first to start with .We intend changing the name of the event appropriately as we get along.
For this maiden Olympics event, we hope to attract over two thousand (2,000.00) participants; using a conservative estimate of 40 participants per year group, as well as teachers and students from the school,Bishop Herman Old Tutors Union(BHOTU) members and spectators who will patronize the event.
It is also hoped that most of the media houses to be invited will be there to give extensive coverage for the event.
Awards,Plaques and Citations will be given to winners and deserving members on Dec 4th 2009(Farmers' holiday) during the National BHOBU Congress/ meeting at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM
The aims and objectives of this particular maiden program among others include the following:
I To Re-equip BIHECO with Sports Equipment and Materials :
II. Raise funds for the refurbishment of the schools Dinning Hall
The school's Dining Hall is in such a dilapidated state that it has become an eye-sore, such that it does not support healthy eating. We have therefore decided to take up this project to restore the Dinning Hall to its old good state or even better. The refurbishment shall involve replacing the louvers, replacing the ceiling fans, replacing the dining tables, re-surfacing the tables with new Formica, benches and painting of the building. The budget of the Dinning Hall project is attached for your perusal. An extension of the dining hall will soon be underway.
It has been decades since most of our members left the School and due to pressure of working life; they have not been able to re-live the good old days back in schools. It is hoped that the games will afford us this opportunity to play back our days in school.
Help members to keep fit
Like the Olympic spirit, the emphasis is not winning of the games and not in winning trophies alone but to afford members the opportunity to burn some calories and keep fit, as the saying goes a healthy mind dwells in a healthy body.
Network with old members :
Another objective of the event is to afford networking opportunities for members, so that members can benefit from the potentials of other members across fields. This may result in opportunities for both the school as a whole and the individual participants as well.
Current Pressing Needs of Biheco are:
1 A Risograph- a machine for printing exams questions- 1999 year group who are also celebrating their 10th anniversary this year wants to adopt and sponsor it
2 PA System for the Assembly Complex -a year group needed by BHOBU National to adopt and sponsor it
3.Library and Computer laboratory furniture(non-existent for the computer lab and library ones dilapidated)
